What the MC1 is

The MC1 is the first PTO in Muncie's Titan class: a medium duty, 10-bolt clutch shift unit for Allison 3000 and 4000 transmissions. Muncie reworked the housing for tight spaces, including Hino trucks, and gave it a stronger clutch pack, a larger input shaft and tapered roller bearings that are lubricated under pressure. The shift cover rotates 360 degrees, the pump flange turns in 30-degree steps, and a self-adjusting shaft brake stops the output once the PTO is switched off.

Muncie says the MC1 can be ordered with every option previously offered on the CS24/CS25 and HS24 (see the CS24 and CS25 page and the HS24 page), and with Muncie Start, an electronically controlled clutch engagement that removes the torque spike on high inertia loads.

Where it fits

The model number carries transmission code A10, the Allison 3000 and 4000 series. Shift code HH is for a 12 volt Hino application. The MC1 works with Muncie's EX Drive shaft extension (see PTO shaft extensions and EX Drive), and Muncie's installation sheet IN16-07 torques the mounting capscrews to 45 ft lb. The constant drive Titan with the same ratios is the MD1.

Ratings at 1,000 rpm are the same intermittent and continuous: 400 lb ft at ratios 05 and 06, 415 at 07 (79 hp), 360 at 08, 340 at 09, 310 at 10, 275 at 11, 265 at 12 and 205 at 15.

Reading an MC1 model number

The tag reads: model, transmission gear, ratio, shift type, assembly arrangement, output type, special feature. Muncie's example is MC1-A10 07-HX 3 BB PX: an MC1 for Allison, ratio 07 (.73:1), 12 volt integral solenoid, arrangement 3 (left side shaft low), SAE B 2 and 4 bolt output, standard hose kit.

  • Ratio: 05 .54:1, 06 .63:1, 07 .73:1, 08 .84:1, 09 .90:1, 10 .97:1, 11 1.1:1, 12 1.19:1, 15 1.48:1.
  • Shift type: HX 12 volt, JX 24 volt, HR and JR remote mounted solenoid, HH Hino, SX and SR Muncie Start, XX without activation parts.
  • Output: 1X 1 1/4 inch round, BA, BB and BS SAE B, CC SAE C, PB and PS SAE BB, AA SAE A, II and 2I DIN 5462, X2 and X4 companion flanges, CB for a shaft extension.
  • Special feature: PX standard hose kit, BX top opening hose kit, UX pulse generator, XX hose delete, PW wet spline.

The model number guide covers all series.

Parts that wear and what to order

  • Rebuild kits by ratio: MC1-RBK-05A for ratios 05 and 06, MC1-RBK-07A for 07 to 15, plus gasket kit MC1-GSK. The input bearing differs between the two groups.
  • Input gear (Detail D) and output gear (Detail A) by ratio, and the output shaft by output type.
  • Solenoid valve: 35T40860 (12 volt) and 35T40864 (24 volt); 35T62496 for Muncie Start. Units built before April 25, 2020 use a 12 volt valve 35T43600 and a different rear cover.
  • Output cover and flange (Detail E) by output code, and the housing in arrangement 1, 3 or 5 (Detail B). Shaft end play must be set to 0.001 to 0.005 inch.
  • Kits: integral solenoid installation kits 48TK6190 to 48TK6193, switch kits 30T43806 (12 volt) and 30T36453 (24 volt), hose kits 43TK3881, 43TK3885 and 43TK6295, stud kit 20TK6353 and speed sensor kit 31TK3873.

Questions we get about the MC1

What is the difference between an MC1 and an MD1?

Both are Titan class 10-bolt PTOs for Allison with the same nine ratios. The MC1 is clutch shift, so it can be switched off from the cab; the MD1 is constant drive.

Why are there two solenoid and rear cover styles?

Muncie's list marks parts for units built before April 25, 2020. Check the build date before you order a valve, cover or clamp ring.

What is Muncie Start on an MC1?

Shift codes SX and SR. It is an electronically controlled clutch engagement and has its own solenoid valve and rear cover.
