Muncie CS10 and CS11 PTO parts
The CS10 is Muncie's heavy duty clutch shift PTO for the Allison 10-bolt opening, and the CS11 is the same PTO with a remote solenoid. Here is how to read the tag and the parts list.

What the CS10 and CS11 are
The CS10 is built with large gears for heavy duty work. It engages through an internal wet clutch pack, has a standard drag brake to stop the output shaft when the PTO is off, and comes with pressure lubrication as standard. Muncie rates its output speed at up to 4,000 rpm for fire pump applications.
The CS11 is the more compact installation. It moves the solenoid valve off the PTO to a remote mount, which gives more room around the PTO. Muncie's market list runs from dump and construction, refuse and utility to fire and rescue, forestry, mining and oil and gas.
Where it fits
Both mount to the Allison 10-bolt opening, and the tag shows a single input gear option, A10 for Allison (10.16P, right hand). Muncie's older clutch shift brochure describes the CS10 for Allison 3000 and 4000 Series and Caterpillar CX transmissions, and the output shaft is placed to take popular hydraulic pumps without altering the Allison case. For a pump on the back of the transmission, Muncie also offers shaft extensions; see PTO shaft extensions.
Reading a CS10 or CS11 model number
The tag reads: series, mounting, input gear, speed ratio, shift type, assembly arrangement, output, special feature. Muncie's example is CS 10-A10 05 H 1 C X: a clutch shift PTO on the 10-bolt mount, Allison A10 gear, ratio 05, 12 volt electric over hydraulic shift, right side shaft low, a 1410 companion flange and no special feature.
- Mounting: 10 is the 10-bolt mount and 11 is the 10-bolt mount with remote solenoid.
- Ratio: 05 (0.57:1), 06 (0.64:1), 07 (0.72:1), 08 (0.85:1), 10 (0.95:1).
- Shift: H is 12 volt and J is 24 volt, both electric over hydraulic.
- Arrangement: 1 is right side shaft low and 3 is left side shaft low.
- Output: B, C, D, E, I, P, S, V (extended shaft option, shaft not included), Y, Z, 2 and X.
- Special feature: X none, B hose kit for top opening, D pulse generator and SPD-2000, U pulse generator, 3 for a 17 inch lube hose, 4 for no lube hose.
See the model number guide.
Parts that wear and what to order
- Input gear assembly from Table A. It is sold only as an assembly, with the gear, cone spacer and bearings, and the list gives the matching cone spacers and bearing shims.
- Installation kit (12 volt kit 48TK3882) and, for a CS11, the conversion kit 48TK4051 used with it.
- Hose kits: the standard 28 inch kit, the special 17 inch kit and the CS11 hose kit.
- Remote solenoid conversion kit for a CS10.
- Accessory kits and stud kit, including the pulse generator option.
- Clutch pack, brake and shaft parts in the main parts and description section. Muncie changed the output shaft and clutch hub in April 1999, so check the date code under the model label.
Questions we get about the CS10 and CS11
What is the difference between a CS10 and a CS11?
The CS11 has the solenoid mounted remotely, which makes a more compact installation. The CS11 conversion kit lists the remote valve, cover assembly and hose kit.
The shaft keeps turning with the PTO off. What now?
Muncie supplies an adjustable drag brake. Turn each end cover set screw 1/4 turn clockwise with a 3/16 inch Allen wrench, restart and watch the shaft. It will not stop a shaft if the clutch pack itself has failed.
What are the limits when engaging it?
Muncie says not to engage a clutch shift PTO under heavy load or above 1,200 rpm output shaft speed. If it will not develop torque, check main pressure at the PTO inlet. Under 150 psi means look for blocked hoses or a wrong transmission port.
