Muncie CS24 and CS25 PTO parts
The CS24 and CS25 are compact clutch shift PTOs for the Allison 10-bolt pad. Here is how the parts list is organised, how to read the tag and what separates a CS24 from a CS25.

What the CS24 and CS25 are
The CS24 is a clutch shift PTO built with the same technology as the CS10 but about 20 percent smaller. A solenoid mounted directly on the unit sends transmission oil to an internal wet clutch pack through a single hose connection. A Muncie drag brake keeps the output shaft from turning while the PTO is off, and pressure lubrication is standard.
The CS25 is the same PTO with a remote mounted solenoid. Both come in two assembly arrangements, so the shaft can sit high or low on either side of the transmission, and the hydraulic flanges rotate for pump clearance.
Where it fits
These PTOs mount on the Allison 10-bolt pad, and the transmission code in the model number is A10. Muncie's Allison World Transmission installation and owner's manual (IN95-02) covers the CS24 and CS25, and its pressure port and PTO enable wiring pages cover the 3000 and 4000 product families. The V output is for Muncie's extended shaft, which is sold separately; see PTO shaft extensions and EX Drive.
Ratings at 1,000 rpm run from 325 lb ft intermittent (228 continuous) at ratios 05 and 06 down to 200 lb ft (140 continuous) at ratio 15. Muncie says not to engage a clutch shift PTO under heavy load or above 1,200 rpm.
Reading a CS24 or CS25 model number
The tag reads: PTO type, mounting, transmission and ratio, shifter, assembly arrangement, output, special feature. Muncie's example is CS-24-A10-08 H-1-C-X: a clutch shift, 10-bolt mount with direct solenoid (24), Allison, ratio 08 (.84:1), 12 volt shifter, arrangement 1, 1410 companion flange, no special feature. A 25 in the mounting position means the remote solenoid.
- Ratio: 05 .55:1, 06 .64:1, 07 .74:1, 08 .84:1, 10 .97:1, 11 1.11:1, 12 1.19:1, 15 1.47:1.
- Output: B 1 1/4 inch round, C 1410 companion flange, 2 DIN 100 companion flange, I and D DIN 5462, K SAE B 2 and 4 bolt, P SAE BB 2 and 4 bolt, S SAE B 2 bolt, Q SAE A 2 bolt, Z SAE B flange with SAE C shaft, V extended shaft.
- Special feature: X none, B 48 inch hose kit, 3 17 inch lube hose kit, 4 lube hose delete, U pulse generator.
The model number guide covers all series.
Parts that wear and what to order
- Input gear assembly (Table E): sold as an assembly with the correct cone spacer (Table D), which sets bearing preload at .002 to .006 inch loose. Bearing shims are in Table C.
- Bell gear by ratio (Table A) and the clutch pack: 5 friction discs and 8 spacer discs on the standard unit. The CS24-RBK rebuild kit bundles them with bearings, springs and seals; the I, D and Z outputs use CS24-RBK-IZ.
- Output shaft and flange/seal assembly (Tables B and G) by output letter, plus the housing in arrangement 1 or 3 (Table F).
- Solenoid: CS24 direct solenoid 35T40860 (12 volt) or 35T40864 (24 volt); CS25 solenoid assembly 35T36092 (12 volt) or 35T36447A (24 volt).
- Kits: installation kit 48TK5017 (12 volt), CS25 conversion kit 48TK5076, bolt kit 20TK6353, gasket kit CS24-GSK, and wet spline kit 14TK5162 (instruction sheet IN09-04).
Questions we get about the CS24 and CS25
What is the difference between a CS24 and a CS25?
The solenoid. The CS24 has it mounted directly on the PTO; the CS25 has it remote. The parts list sells a conversion kit, 48TK5076, with its own hose kit.
The output shaft turns when the PTO is off. What now?
Cold oil can make a clutch pack drag, so warm the transmission first. If it continues, Muncie says to check the wiring, then adjust the drag brake.
Why can I not buy just a gear and a spacer?
The cone spacer sets input bearing preload and is a critical dimension, so Muncie sells the input gear as an assembly with the right spacer included.
