What the CD05 and CD10 are

A constant drive PTO has no clutch or shifter. It turns whenever the transmission's PTO gear turns, which suits live drive equipment. Muncie positions the CD10 as the alternative to a front crankshaft driven pump, without obstructing the engine and cooling system.

The CD05 uses the same components as the CD10 and is about 15 percent smaller, for tight mounting. Both have standard pressure lubrication and two assembly arrangements that put the shaft high or low on either side. The CD10 is designed to work with Muncie's PTO shaft extensions on the Allison 3000 and 4000.

Where it fits

Both are 10-bolt PTOs for the Allison World transmissions, 3000 and 4000 series, and Muncie's 2006 automatic transmission sheet also lists the CD10 for the Caterpillar CX28, CX31 and CX35. On the CD05, Muncie notes that the direct mount flange outputs cannot be used on the Allison 4000.

Reading a CD05 or CD10 model number

The order is PTO type, mounting, transmission gear, speed ratio, shift type, assembly arrangement, output, special feature. Muncie's CD10 example is CD-10-A10-08 M-1-C-X: constant drive, 10-bolt design 10, Allison A10 gear, ratio 08, constant mesh, arrangement 1, 1410 companion flange output, no special feature. The CD05 example is CD-05-A10-07 M-3-B-X.

• Output: B 1 1/4 inch keyed, C 1410 companion flange, D SAE "B" 2 and 4 bolt, E SAE "C" 2 and 4 bolt, I DIN 5462, P SAE "BB", Q, R, S and Y other SAE "A", "B" and "C" 2-bolt types, V for the Muncie extended shaft (shaft not included), Z SAE "B" flange with SAE "C" shaft, 2 DIN 100 flange. The CD05 model chart lists a shorter set (B, C, I, P, Q, R, S, Z and 2).
• Special feature: X none, B 48 inch hose kit, 3 17 inch hose kit, 4 lube hose delete, U pulse generator. The CD10 adds G greaseable output and W wet spline (I output only); the CD05 adds 2 for a 36 inch hose kit.

Parts that wear and what to order

• Output shaft and bell gear by output letter and ratio, from Table A and Table B.
• Hydraulic flange and flange and seal kit (Tables C and D) when changing or resealing the pump mount.
• Input gear and cone spacer (Table E), with shim kit 18TK5233 (Table F, one shim is used).
• Gasket and rebuild kits: CD-GSK and CD-RBK for the CD10, CD05-GSK and CD05-RBK for the CD05.
• Pressure lube kits 43MK3620, 43MK2810, 43TK4545 and 43TK5087, the speed sensor kit 31TK3873 (special option U), and stud kit 20TK6353.

Questions we get about the CD05 and CD10

Which is right, the CD05 or the CD10?

The CD10 has seven ratios and a 400 lb ft top rating. The CD05 has five ratios, tops out at 360 lb ft and is the smaller one for tight mounting. If the PTO must disengage, you want a clutch shift unit such as the CS10 and CS11 instead.

Can I switch the PTO off?

No. The shifter code is M for constant mesh, so the PTO is always turning with the transmission. If you need to disconnect the load, choose a clutch shift PTO.
