Mack vocational trucks leave the factory with very different gearboxes, and a PTO that fits one will not bolt to another. Before ordering anything, find out which of these your truck has. The transmission tag, the build sheet or a photo of the PTO itself will tell us.

Mack mDRIVE automated manuals

The mDRIVE takes rear mounted PTOs. Muncie's RS4S line, sold as the P81, P82, P84 and P86 models, is listed for the Mack mDRIVE as well as the Volvo I-Shift and Eaton Endurant. The P81 is a through shaft unit for driveline work such as blowers and vacuum pumps, while the P86 is a two gear unit with several ratios that leaves room for a direct mount pump, the usual choice for an end dump. Mack and Eaton manual transmissions

Older Mack chassis and many dump and mixer trucks run a manual transmission with a side PTO opening. Those take Muncie gear shift units such as the TG, the SH for higher torque or the 82 Series for the heaviest loads, each built with an input gear to suit the transmission. The exact input gear depends on the transmission model, so we confirm it from the PTO tag before quoting.

Allison automatics in refuse and mixer work

Mack refuse and mixer chassis are often ordered with an Allison automatic. For the Allison 3000 and 4000 Series, Muncie offers the A20, A30, A40 and A50 family, in clutch shift and constant drive versions, and the CS40 and CS41, and the EX Drive lets a large pump mount directly on transmissions with a retarder or cooler in the way.

Parts that wear on Mack PTO installations
